Netflix has announced a new docuseries on Simone Biles, premiering on July 17, just nine days before the Paris Olympics. The four-episode series will provide behind-the-scenes footage of Biles’ life since her exit from the Tokyo Olympics.
In the series, the 27-year-old gymnast will discuss her decision to drop out of the previous Olympics, her return to competition in 2023, and her preparations for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
The docuseries will also feature moments with Biles’ husband, NFL safety Jonathan Owens, her former Team USA teammate Aly Raisman, and her mother Nellie Biles.

According to the official synopsis, the series highlights Biles as “one of the biggest stories leading into” the COVID-impacted 2020 Tokyo Olympics before the four-time gold medalist was affected by the “twisties.”
“Since then, Simone has put in the hard work: facing the difficult traumas of her past, learning to manage her mental health, embracing her journey, and in the process, rebuilding her gymnastics from the ground up,” the synopsis reads.
“Her courage to soar knows no bounds as this summer she plans to return to the Olympic stage once again to do what she’s always done – be the best Simone Biles that she can be. Because through it all, Simone still rises.”
In a statement shared by Netflix, Biles said of the upcoming docuseries: “We are all the authors of our own journeys, and I am in a place in my life where I’m comfortable with who I am and what I’ve been through as an athlete, but most of all, as a person.
“Gymnastics is what I do but it’s not who I am, and I’m excited for people to see another side of me outside of competition.”
She added in a separate statement: “I know there are young girls out there who look to me for inspiration and are faced with similar challenges, and my hope is that this documentary helps to empower them to be true to who they are and never give up on their dreams.”
Biles has made a successful comeback, winning the top titles at the 2024 US Gymnastics Championships and the U.S. Classic in May.
With seven career Olympic medals, she is now tied with Shannon Miller for the most Olympic medals won by any American gymnast, as noted by the Olympics’ official website.
