W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home (1894)

W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home was founded in 1894 by William Henry Jefferson and his wife Lucy Jefferson. William H. Jefferson was the first African-American funeral director in Mississippi, while his wife was a leader in the education sector of the State of Mississippi. William and Lucy Jefferson were social and education leaders in Vicksburg and Mississippi. W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home, located in Vicksburg, Mississippi, is the oldest registered Black-owned funeral home in the USA. The funeral home was passed down to other family members after the deaths of William and Lucy Jefferson. The family members still run it today.
