Nigeria has a lot of political dramas to contribute to any continental discussion on how highly-placed and powerful people in the country curiously react to pressure from institutions or the people.

It was in that country that an official told auditors that a mysterious snake had eaten up the $100,000 she could not account for. Promptly, her claim was dismissed by her interrogators, disciplinary proceedings were started and she was ridiculed on social media.

Believe it or not, that is not even the most bizarre getaway tactic a Nigerian government official has used in recent times. Collapsing in court or at civil hearings has also become a very recurring phenomenon.

There are others too who show up to court in wheelchairs or stretchers. And then there is Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former Minister of Petroleum who was widely reported to have been sick with cancer right after serious allegations of corruption were made about her tenure.

For this list, we compiled the most sudden and dramatic examples of Nigerian officials feeling too unwell for interrogations and justice.
