At the beginning of a new school term, the government of Equatorial Guinea had put in place a new rule that states that “in order to enroll, all teenage girls must take a pregnancy test. And a positive test means no more education”.

Deputy education minister Maria-Jesus Nkara said the tough new measure sought to encourage schoolgirls to protect themselves against unwanted pregnancies.
