The mother of Kenya’s current president, Uhuru Kenyatta married the first president of the country in 1957 when she was only 18 years old. She was the fourth wife of Jomo Kenyatta and bore him four children. She stood by her husband throughout the tough times and was often seen accompanying him in public looking glamorous with her signature head wrap. She even had some streets in Nairobi and Mombasa, as well as a Children’s Home named after her. The 87-year-old now tries to keep herself away from public eye, but she is indeed lucky to have married a president with her son also becoming president.
