Nefertiti Bust

Egypt has over the years been making formal requests to Germany for the return of the more than 3400-year-old bust of Queen Nefertiti, but Germany has insisted that the bust will remain in Berlin.

There are claims that the bust, unearthed in 1912 by German archaeologist Ludwig Borchardt, was acquired through fraudulent means, a claim Germany has denied.

As Egyptians continue to fight for what they claim is rightfully theirs, the bust is raking in revenue for Germany. Every year, more than a million people visit the Neues Museum in Berlin to get a glimpse of it.
