All-inclusive democracy
Economies can never grow in a repressive environment. Even though governments are deepening democratic values, more is still expected from the region.
Africa’s population forecast by 2040 stands at 2.1 billion – with this rise comes “the burden of lawlessness, joblessness, administrative dysfunction, ethnoreligious tension, and unchecked pollution”. With a repressive regime and constricted distribution of wealth, there is always a potential for sectoral or national dissent. An all-inclusive democracy – looking to the future will not only deepen confidence in government but also make the continent highly attractive for investment and long-term financing.
The year 2020 comes with bright prospects. The responsibility falls on Africa to harness the socio-economic opportunities and create a formidable engine for growth and rapid human and industrial development.
