Traditional African communities facing displacement in the 21st century

The Fulani tribe are a nomadic tribe who heavily inhabit Central and West Africa.  Being that many are herders, they spend a large amount of time tending to their cattle that must travel to graze.

Being forced into camps, such as the Ndoubou camp in the vicinity of Batangafo, means losing cattle and their livelihood.

600,000 are displaced without permanent homes and 2.1 million experience food insecurity.

Though there is some aid provided by governmental agencies, it is inconsistent due to violence.

“Civilians pay a heavy price to the violence imposed by armed groups. Oftentimes, they are cut off from much-needed humanitarian assistance,” said Yaye Nabo Sene, spokesperson at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
