The Kanuri people live in the area surrounding the Lake Chad basin in northeastern Nigeria. The Kanuris strongly believe that marriage is divinely ordained, and wedding ceremonies are conducted along deeply traditional or religious lines. The wedding ceremony is marked by nights of dancing and singing, with guests split distinctly by gender.

In conservative Kanuri culture, the bride-to-be doesn’t get to make a public appearance, and she may barely be seen during the entire wedding ceremony. Consequently, there aren’t many pictures of the bride and groom on their wedding day.
