Kasubi Tombs
Located in Kampala, Uganda’s capital city, the Kasubi Tombs are the burial place of four kings of Buganda, locally known as Kabakas, and other members of the Baganda royal family. The site was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001 and still remains a critical political and spiritual site for Ugandan people.
The Kasubi Tombs are considered some of the most remarkable buildings in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly since they were built with purely vegetal materials, including locally sourced reeds, twigs, and animal hides. The site contains a royal palace and 30 royal tombs.
