UK Afrobeats Heavyweights Battle for GUBA 2012 AWARD

Mista Silva, Fuse ODG and Vibe Squad go head to head in the Emerging Music Acts category. This popular category creates biggest social media buzz for the 2012 GUBA Awards. The public voting frenzy continues.

The Ghana UK Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards has unveiled nominees for the public vote ahead of the GUBA 2012 awards ceremony on 10th November at the Park Plaza hotel, London. The GUBA awards currently in its third year, is known for the celebration and acknowledgement of Ghanaian talent in various fields including business, music, media, community and fashion.

A host of well-known media personalities and public figures including GUBA patron Hugh Quarshie (Holby City) and Team GB sprinter Jeanette Kwakye were in attendance to witness the unveiling of the GUBA 2012 nominees. Also at the launch were prestigious dignitaries, from his Excellency Professor Kweku Danso Boafo the Ghana High Commissioner to the UK, through to Philomena Kwao the UK’s 1st Black plus size (Models 1).

Azonto superstars Mista Silva known for ‘Boom Boom Tah’, ODG of the world famous ‘Azonto’ anthem of the same name, Vibe Squad and more have been nominated for the Emerging Music Acts category. The category comes at an exciting time with the rise of Afrobeats, a genre which is filtering into the mainstream music scene.  The other nominees in the category are also making an impact in the unsigned and underground circuits.

Last year’s winner of the Best New Music Act Juliyaa has enjoyed success since winning the GUBA award.  This has raised her profile in the Ghanaian and mainstream music industry alike.

The half Welsh half Ghanaian singer-songwriter from North London has since appeared in the Voice and Metro, on BBC 1XTRA and performed at Ghana Party in the Park to name but a few.  Not only has she recorded an exclusive track with Best Emerging Act Nominee Mista Silva recorded in collaboration with Mefri Ghana (www.mefrighana.com ), the Rhythmic Soul Singer has  also recorded a track with MOBO and BET Award winner SWAY the Uk’s N01 rapper  who sponsored the category in 2011. The track will feature on SWAY’S forth coming album. Juliyaa’s EP Stars & Dragons is out on 1st Nov 2012.

Voting which commenced on the 24th of September, was open to the general public to decide who will be crowned the GUBA Awards 2012 Best Emerging Music Act.*
