Santino Casio, the inmate who allegedly stabbed Tory Lanez in prison, similarly assaulted a different prisoner in a previous incident and was also implicated in another crime all while locked up, TMZ reported.
Casio, who is already serving a life sentence after being convicted of murder, and Lanez are fellow inmates at the California Correctional Institution (CCI) in Tehachapi. Monday morning’s stabbing incident occurred in a housing unit at the facility, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) said.
In the wake of the incident, Lanez, 32, was rendered medical aid by prison staff who also called 911. He was then transported to a hospital to receive additional medical attention.
In a statement on Instagram, Lanez’s representatives said the Canadian rapper and singer was “stabbed 14 times – including 7 wounds to his back, 4 to his torso, 2 to the back of his head, and 1 to the left side of his face.”
The statement also claimed the Jerry Sprunger singer’s “lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus.”

The CDCR said Casio is being detained in restricted housing pending the outcome of an investigation, TMZ reported. Casio, 42, was initially handed a life sentence with the possibility of parole after he was found guilty of second-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, personal use of a dangerous or deadly weapon, and inflicting great bodily injury.
But he was subsequently implicated in other crimes while serving his life sentence. The CDCR said Casio was found guilty of assaulting another inmate with a deadly weapon or force likely to cause great bodily injury. He was handed a six-year sentence for that.
He was also convicted of possession/manufacture of a deadly weapon by a prisoner and handed a two-year sentence.
As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, shot female rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the feet during an argument after they left a pool party hosted at reality star Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood mansion in July 2020. Megan, whose real name is Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, had to undergo surgery to remove bullet fragments from her foot following the shooting.
He was sentenced to 10 years in prison after he was found guilty on three gun-related charges in the shooting. Lanez was convicted of three felonies: assault with a semi-automatic firearm; having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle; and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
Lanez has, however, maintained his innocence.
