The Republic of Liberia formed in hopes of being a solution to combat slavery in the United States.

Members of the American Colonization Society thought freed slaves would have a better chance at maintaining their freedom and a suitable economic solution by moving to the West African nation.

Nonetheless, the racial construct of America has also made an undeniable impression in Liberia.

Americo-Liberians and Liberians have been known to be in conflict due to the first group feigning superiority over the latter.
