Natasha Rothwell, star of “Insecure,” has announced plans to adapt the hit TikTok series “Who TF Did I Marry?” for television. In “Who TF Did I Marry?”, Tareasa “Reesa Teesa” Johnson narrates her relationship with her ex-husband, whom she describes as a pathological liar, in 50 separate TikToks totaling more than eight hours in duration.
In just two weeks after releasing the series earlier this year, Johnson gained over 3 million followers and the series has since generated over 450 million social media impressions.
According to Variety, Rothwell will act as executive producer for the TV version while also starring as Johnson. Following a fierce bidding war, the project was set up at ABC Signature, where Rothwell’s Big Hattie Productions label was previously part of an overall arrangement.
“Who TF Did I Marry?” is produced by the 43-year-old’s Big Hattie Productions, which recently appointed Mary Sayama McHenry as director of development. McHenry comes to Big Hattie from CBS TV Studios and Get Lifted Film Company, where she most recently worked.
According to the publication, the announcement comes ahead of the September 13 launch of “How to Die Alone,” a Hulu comedy Rothwell created and stars in. Rothwell will also return to her Emmy-nominated performance from Season 1 in “The White Lotus” for a third appearance in Season 3.
Rothwell is most recognized for her role as Kelli on HBO’s “Insecure,” which she wrote for. She was also a writer for “Saturday Night Live” from 2014 to 2015.
She is represented by Edna Cowan Management and Jackoway Austen Tyerman Wertheimer Mandelbaum Morris Bernstein Trattner Auerbach Hynick Jaime LeVine Sample & Klein, and CAA.
Johnson joined CAA in March, a month after “Who TF Did I Marry?” went viral. She is represented by attorney Omara Harris.
