Spike Lee has released the official trailer for Da 5 Bloods, his upcoming Netflix feature. The project, which is Lee’s first since winning an Oscar for “BlacKkKlansman”, tells the story of four black veterans who return to Vietnam to find the remains of their fallen squad leader (played by Chadwick Boseman) as well as buried gold.
Beyond Boseman, the cast also features Delroy Lindo, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis, Jonathan Majors, among others. “Da 5 Bloods” also looks at America’s racial politics in the 1960s, especially the aftermath of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination.
“The United States Armed Forces came close to being torn apart when black soldiers heard that Dr. King was assassinated,” Lee recently told Vanity Fair. “They also heard that their brothers and sisters were tearing shit up in over 100 cities across America. The tipping point came very close; the black soldiers were getting ready to set it off in Vietnam—and not against the Vietcong either.”
“Da 5 Bloods” will debut June 12 on Netflix. Watch the trailer below:
