A Memphis bride, who was hours away from walking down the aisle, was left in a state of shock after her car containing her custom-made $3,000 wedding dress was stolen. In an interview with NBC12, the bride’s wedding planner, Nakeisha Green, said that though she’s always prepared for any mishap, the call she received on Wednesday was the first she had ever experienced.

“She was just freaking out. Of course, you plan for your special day. It’s wedding eve, you’ve paid caterers and vendors,” Green said. She also said the bride’s car was parked in downtown Memphis at the time it was stolen, adding that she was in a hotel at the time.

In the wake of the theft, they shared a post on Facebook begging for someone to provide a wedding dress. Several users on the social media platform eventually reached out to help. A woman Green later spoke with managed to sort them out.

“When she came to me, she was in tears, but when she left, she was smiling and that just made our day,” Memphis fashion designer and seamstress Jessie Dodson said.

Dodson and the wedding planner were talking about the incident on speakerphone when a woman who was having a fitting became aware of the emergency. “It just rang in the back of my head. I said, ‘Well, I have a dress. And my dress has literally been in the bag since I wore it eight years ago. And my wedding anniversary was two days ago,” said Janeese Murphy.

Murphy ultimately donated her custom-made dress to the bride, enabling her to tie the knot as planned. The bride did not also have to pay for the alterations that Dodson did on the dress.

“I’ve wanted to sell the dress in the past and just didn’t do it and this is why,” Murphy said.
