Television personality Gayle King celebrated her 70th birthday in style as her billionaire best friend Oprah Winfrey surprised her with a party attended by her loved ones. Per PEOPLE, Winfrey, 70, took to Instagram on Saturday to share a video of King’s reaction when they arrived at the venue.
In the video, King and Oprah are seen entering the venue before the birthday celebrant hops back in surprise after she sees her loved ones cheering her. The guests later sing “Happy Birthday” to King.
“My bestie of 50 years is turning 70 so we gathered everyone that loved her to celebrate,” Oprah captioned in the video. “Hard thing to surprise her, O the stories we have made up, the lies we have told to keep this a secret. Happy birthday @gayleking, sorry we almost gave you a heart attack.”

Oprah similarly celebrated her 70th birthday on January 29, but she opted to mark the occasion without any pomp and pageantry. Oprah posted a video of herself running on the beach to celebrate the occasion.
“Celebrating 70 with a run on the beach. #healthisthebestgift. Thank you for all the birthday love,” the media mogul wrote on Instagram. King also took to Instagram to wish her best friend a happy birthday.
“Happy to say at 70 @oprah is still a very good reader!” King wrote alongside a video of Oprah hanging out with the TV personality’s grandson. “While Favorite grandson Luca is too young to understand how special this moment was during Christmas vacation, it’s not lost on me.”
King also wrote that when Oprah was “asked how she wanted to spend her birthday, she said, ‘No gifts, no parties, no surprises!’” “Her preference was to sit by the fire with a good book and savor the fragrance of her life! Happy birthday Oprah!!” she added.
