Jamie Foxx sustained a mouth injury during his birthday dinner at Mr. Chow’s in Beverly Hills on Friday night after he got into an altercation with other customers at the eatery.
Multiple sources have since told TMZ that the dispute stemmed from an employee with the Jackass franchise’s production company directing a laser displaying the image of a penis at the comedian and actor’s table.
The Jackass employee was said to be among other colleagues who were having a private party at the upstairs VIP section of the restaurant. Foxx reportedly took issue with the laser penis being pointed at his table because his children were around.
The 57-year-old reportedly made his way to the VIP room and told the guests to stop what they were doing, as it was nothing to laugh about. The sources also told the celebrity and entertainment news outlet that Dickhouse Productions had rented the VIP area that night. The production company’s owners and managers are Johnny Knoxville, Jeff Tremaine, and Spike Jonze.
The sources said the Jackass stars were not present at the private party, adding that the attendees consisted of the production company’s crew members. An individual who attended Foxx’s birthday dinner said the celebrant’s guests numbered about 50, and the event was an important one, particularly because the Django Unchained star had recovered from a stroke.
Prior to the altercation, Foxx received a drink from the individuals at the private party, but he did not drink it because he no longer takes alcohol. A waiter at the restaurant also told Foxx that guests at the private party were waving at him and he should “wave back.”
The dinner guest told TMZ that the individuals at the private party burst into laughter during that period, and their actions got them confused until they realized a laser displaying the image of a penis was being pointed at their table.
“In front of my daughters?” Foxx reportedly said in response to their actions. Foxx and some of his friends subsequently made their way to the VIP area to ask the guests the reason behind their actions. But tensions arose, and Foxx was allegedly struck in the face with a thick drinking glass that was thrown by a Jackass Forever crew member.
The 57-year-old suffered a mouth injury that required stitches. Foxx’s friends remained at the restaurant after he left to go get the stitches, but TMZ was informed that the guests at the private party remained hostile toward them, resulting in the restaurant’s staff contacting the police. Foxx is said to have later talked to the police.
Responding to the incident, an attorney representing Dickhouse Productions said that “although the crew has the greatest respect for Jamie, the version of events that has been presented is totally inaccurate and deeply unfair to those attending their holiday celebration that night.”
An investigation into the incident has since been launched.
