An inmate was videoed hanging from the back window of a state prison transport van while he was being transported. Per NBC News, the September 2 incident occurred on a freeway in Oklahoma City.

One of the videos of the inmate hanging from the back window was recorded by Tiggin Martin. The video shows the inmate with his head out of the van’s back window with his orange top almost removed. He is also seen making signals to motorists.

The back window seemingly looks damaged or taken off, and the van ultimately turns to the side of the roadway. In an interview with KFOR, Martin said she was riding in a car with her sister when she recorded the incident. She said her sister was driving the car at the time.

“Oh, my God,” Martin and her sister are heard saying in the video. The sisters are also heard sharing their worries about the inmate possibly jumping out of the car. “Don’t you f—— do it, bro,” one of them is heard saying.

“It only lasted for about a minute or two until they pulled off the highway,” Martin said, adding that they initially thought it was a prank or something.

The sisters also said that they feared the inmate would land on the vehicle’s hood or that he would be hit if he jumped out of the moving van.

“You’re driving, you’re trying to pay attention to what you’re doing, but you’re kind of like, ‘What is this guy doing?’” Alexis Martin said.

In a statement, the state Corrections Department said that the inmate damaged the van and hung out of the back window while it was running a “routine transport.”

“Our officers immediately recognized the situation, exited the highway and called for additional law enforcement support,” the department said, adding that the inmate was ultimately “secured” and the journey was fulfilled afterward, NBC News reported.

The identity of the inmate was, however, not released, and the department said “remains committed to transparency, accountability and ensuring the safety of all individuals in our care and all Oklahomans.”
