With discrimination and racial tension at its peak, we are attracted to the actions and rhetoric of many instrumental black figures. Afro-centric celebrities and non-celebrities alike are calling for a reform in the mental and economic processes of African and African-Americans.
We are being summoned to open our eyes, hearts and minds, stop looking for validation from the masses and empower ourselves. Conversely, what happens when those figures who we look up to are linked with a romantic partner of the white race? Does it taint their message or image? Does it even matter?
Let us take a look at those who are all for black power and happen to be married or partnered up with someone who isn’t black. Do the romantic relationships of these high-status figures have anything to do with their stand against discrimination? Why or why not?
