Barely 24 hours after R&B singer Usher was announced as the headline act of the halftime show at the Super Bowl LVIII, music fans are divided over whether he is the right fit for the much-loved show. For those raising questions about his relevance, they argue the singer’s influence has waned with time.
According to some fans, he has lost charm with the present generation as many are unable to associate with his past hits while others posit he is an iconic figure and upbeat to see him take the stage.
On Sunday, organizers of the NFL announced Usher’s name as part of the A-List artists who would be performing for the games in February in Paradise, Las Vegas. This marks the fifth collaboration between the NFL and Roc Nation for the halftime show. The headliner for the 2023 show was Rihanna, and it was the first year the show was sponsored by Apple Music.
Usher, known for his numerous chart-topping hits and collaborations with music icons, has many fans eagerly speculating about potential guest appearances at the Super Bowl performance since the announcement of him being the headliner came out, according to the Daily Mail.
While some users of X have come to his defense, stating that he has a whole catalog to meet the excellence the show has set for itself, others are not impressed.
“Wow it’s really cool they’re having Usher do the halftime show this year!!!” said a user on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I wonder who they’re gonna choose for the 2007 Super Bowl!”
“This is a terrible act for the Superbowl no one ever says at all (at a) tailgate .” ‘hey can u play some user,” never,” shared an NFL fan. “It’s bee yrs since they have a real group that’s huge. I’ll pass.”
“Honestly, Usher performing the Super Bowl Halftime show is going to be so iconic,” tweeted a fan of the ‘Yeah!’ singer.
“They couldn’t find anyone better or more relevant that Usher to do the Super Bowl halftime show?” pointed out another user.
“Dude literally has the biggest show in Vegas the last 1.5 years,” replied someone else, referring to Usher’s Las Vegas residency. Music fans divided Usher right artist to headline 2023 Super Bowl show
