South Sudan Peace process
After a long period of civil strife in South Sudan, a glimpse of hope was felt when President Salva Kiir and rebel leader Riek Machar signed a ceasefire.
However, just hours after the ceasefire came into effect, rebel spokesperson Lam Paul Gabriel stated that the government forces and Sudanese rebels launched an attack in Mboro, Wau county. The account was discounted by government spokesperson Ateny Wek Ateny, who told the press that the opposition had attacked them.
The situation was a point of discussion at the A.U. meeting, with the leaders asking the two parties to respect the ceasefire.
