Football has become synonymous with success because of huge financial investment pumped into the sports by football world’s governing body FIFA and partners.

After the end of a successful career, footballers tend to venture into coaching or TV/Radio punditry, however, a few of them have decided to branch into politicking.

The African continent has produced some of the world’s most talented and decorated footballers. Some of these players have become global icons who are admired by many due to their impact on the field.

However, in order to continue to influence and change the status quo, some of them have delved deep into politics, a move that has been hailed by some members of the public while criticised by others.
