5 prominent women in black British history who deserve more recognition than they are getting

The celebration of black history is an important movement in the black community. For many years, the history of the black race has been sidelined, altered, brushed under the carpet and removed from many textbooks especially in the diaspora.

Black women in history are the most ill-treated of the human race. Not only were they dealing with issues of slavery and segregation, but they also had to deal with and overcome issues around the social expectations of black women.

They were deprived of access to education and basic human rights even after the abolition of slavery. Despite all the struggles they faced for being women of color, many of them became trailblazers in their own rights even as far back as the 17th century.

Here are 5 black British women who have made a mark in history and deserve to be celebrated more.
