Africa39 Anthology To Launch in New York City!

“Beauty, Melancholy, and Morning,” that is how Kenyan writer Mukoma Wa Ngugi described the Africa39 anthology, a collection of short stories written by 39 of the most-promising African writers under 40 from Sub Saharan Africa and the diaspora.

Partnering with Afridiaspora.com, a website dedicated to promoting African Literature, the anthology is being launched in New York City on Tuesday, March 3, 2015.

The dazzling list of writers in the anthology includes Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie, Dinaw Mengestu, Taiye Selasie, and Tope Folarin, to name a few.

The preface to the book is provided by Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka. The judges selected from as many as 200 submissions researched by Binyavanga Wainaina, founder of the Nairobi-based literary magazine Kwani?

The anthology, a joint project between the Hay Festival and the Rainbow Book Club in Port Harcourt launched in London and Nigeria in 2014.

On March 3rd at Columbia University, Ellah Wakatama Allfrey, the editor of the anthology will join two authors from the anthology: Nana Ekua Brew Hammond and Caine Prize Winner Tope Folarin for a reading and discussion.

The event will be moderated by Nana-Ama Kyerematen of Afridiaspora.com.
