Dope Saint Jude — 10and5

Dope Saint Jude

From Cape Town, South Africa, Catherine Saint Jude Pretorious is a queer rapper using her music to discuss gender and sexuality. She founded South Africa’s first drag king troupe when she was still in her teenage years. Her former drag king persona was based on Lil Wayne, and when you go through her Instagram feed, you will find photos of her international gender-bending queer friends. She released her self-produced EP, Reimagine, last year, which touched on the same theme – gender and sexuality. Dope Saint Jude dresses with a sense of versatility, saying “My clothing has evolved as I have evolved as a woman.” “I used to be uncomfortable in my femininity, but as I have grown more comfortable with gender being fluid, my style started reflecting that.” “I hope my style reflects my authentic self,” she added.
