Afro Nation has broken hearts after the outfit announced the cancellation of the highly-anticipated Lagos debut.

The Afro Nation Nigeria festival, which was supposed to take place in Lagos in December, left many patrons stoked.

The festival’s organizers however made the cancellation announcement in a formal statement on October 31, 2023. Renowned for providing a forum for musicians to engage with their followers and create global cultural waves, Afro Nation has held events in Portugal, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Miami, and Detroit, among other places.

But they have a particular place in their hearts for Nigeria, which makes the cancellation a particularly bittersweet choice.

The news clearly excites fans of the Afro Nation Festival in Nigeria, who were anxious to take in the distinctive ambiance of the occasion when the dates of the first festival in the country, December 19 and 20, were announced back in September. The event was slated to happen at the popular Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos State.

The cancellation of this eagerly anticipated festival, which had created great anticipation among attendees and the music industry, stems from the organizers’ steadfast dedication to upholding extraordinarily high standards. Although the organizers were deeply disappointed that they were unable to celebrate with their Nigerian fans this year, they reassured the public that they would not waver in their determination to produce an Afro-Nation show in Lagos that is worthy of praise from all.

Due to the cancellation of the Afro Nation Nigeria event, Ghana is the only country in Africa to have hosted this internationally recognized festival.

Waiting for the next opportunity to come together and celebrate the rich Afrobeat culture that Afro Nation is known for will require patience on the part of fans and the music industry. Those who had eagerly bought tickets have been promised full refunds, including booking fees, by the organizers. Ticket holders will receive comprehensive information via email about the refund process.
