Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting death of José Ervin Jr., the Ohio father who made headlines with his wife and their twin children for sharing the same birthday.

Per News 5 Cleveland, authorities arrested the yet-to-be-identified suspect in the Columbus area, and arrangements are being made for that individual to be extradited to Northeast Ohio. The charges to be brought against the suspect could not be established at the time of this report.

As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Ervin and his wife Scierra made the news in August last year after they welcomed their twin children. The couple, who share the same birthday, welcomed their twin children on their birthday.

But tragedy hit the Ohio family on October 4 as Ervin was fatally shot during an altercation with another man. Per News 5 Cleveland, the incident occurred at a gas station on Turney Road. Prior to the shooting, Ervin and a group of friends had left a neighborhood bar and were getting food and drinks.

Obtained footage from the gas station later showed Ervin and another man arguing before it became physical. But after the fight broke up, the footage showed the other man drawing a gun and pursuing Ervin. The gunman shot Ervin multiple times before driving away with two women.

Ervin succumbed to his injuries in a hospital. “My son was begging, my son was saying, ‘don’t do this, don’t kill me, man,’ and he did it anyway. They did it anyway,” Ervin’s mother, Rhonda Ervin, said, adding that her deceased son was popular in the community.

“He used to go to the police station just to hang out with them, and they knew him very well. One person that knew him very well, that broke down crying in my arms, Detective Patrick from Garfield Heights police station. He said, as soon as he saw him, he knew who he was, and they tried to save him,” Rhonda recalled.

Ervin’s wife Scierra is pregnant with their third child after they welcomed their twin children last August. “We just got married in June,” Scierra told News 5 Cleveland. “We didn’t even get to be married for six months. This is real life. They don’t have a right to steal a life. We are not God. We don’t have that right.”

Prior to the arrest, Ervin’s family had entreated the gunman to turn himself in.
