Danai Gurira as Okoye in Black Panther

The whole of Wakanda rightfully ‘ganged up’ on Marvel to put some respect on Danai Gurira’s name and their demands were successfully met.

On Thursday, the official trailer and poster for the highly anticipated Avengers: Endgame movie were released but despite the hype and buzz surrounding them, a major omission on the poster got some fans registering their displeasure with Marvel.

The poster featured thirteen main characters including Okoye, who is played by Zimbabwean-American Danai Gurira. However, Gurira’s name was nowhere to be seen on the main cast list at the top of the poster though the other twelve, including Bradley Cooper, who plays voice actor for Rocket Raccoon were credited.

The conspicuous omission generated a swift backlash on social media with people asking Marvel to add her name at the top.

Marvel rectified the omission later on in the day and shared an edited poster with Gurira’s name deservedly on it.

In Avengers: Infinity War, Okoye, who is the leader of the all-female royal guard of Wakanda, the Dora Milaje, was part of those who survived bad guy Thanos’ “dust-up”. With her king, T’Challa, unfortunately, part of the Avengers Thanos turned to dust, her role in Endgame is set to be a very crucial one.

The movie is set to be released in theatres on April 26.
