Bobby Brown is reclaiming his prerogative — and Britney Spears is catching the heat. During a no-holds-barred chat on the Club Shay Shay podcast, the R&B icon slammed Spears’ 2004 cover of his 1988 anthem, calling it an “assault on his ears.”
Brown didn’t sugarcoat it, telling host Shannon Sharpe the pop princess “butchered” the track so badly, he couldn’t even sit through it. Brutal honesty? That’s Bobby being Bobby.
Bobby Brown admitted he initially approved Britney Spears’ cover of “My Prerogative,” swayed by producer Teddy Riley and Spears’ superstar status, as reported by TMZ.
But speaking to Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay, Brown said the end result felt more like a demolition job than a tribute.
“Brittney Spears butchered, she butchered ‘Prerogative’. I cleared it only because it was Britney Spears, and I was thinking Teddy Riley is doing it, too. But I felt it was a butchering,” Brown said.
Now, with legacy on his mind, Brown insists on hearing all remixes before giving the green light — no more surprises on his hits.
Britney Spears’ take on “My Prerogative” may not have topped the Billboard Hot 100, but it was a mainstream radio hit when it was released.

As for Bobby Brown’s harsh critique, fans are now watching to see if Spears responds — and if she does, it’s likely to come with a signature Instagram twirl and a caption to match.
