Portia White

She was a famous singer who started out in Nova Scotia before finding the limelight on stages around the world, including the U.S., the Caribbean, and Central and South America. “Named by reviewers as the ‘new star of the concert stage’, White’s achievement was rare in a period when race and gender defined women’s place in society,” an article by cleojournal.com said.
