Eight African fashion events that offer a taste of African creativity and diversity

Around this time, fashion lovers drop everything to go to the world’s fashion capital, New York, Milan, London and Paris to check out the latest trends and exclusive creations from world-renowned designers.

It is also at this same time that African cities are planning their own national events to showcase designers and fashion houses- established and upcoming- at fashion weeks. The events, most of which usually take place from October offer an array of opportunities for fashion lovers and designers to buy and present their work respectively.

Many have asked how influential these events are considering that fashion is still seen as a struggling industry on the continent and that designers have had to use internationally known platforms and celebrities to showcase their work.  Nevertheless, for many designers, fashion events are the stage onto which some of their creative works get noticed even on a small-scale.
