Walton served as Hull’s mayor from 2019 to 2023. It was alleged that Walton exploited his city credit card for personal expenses.
The District Attorney’s Office for the Northern Judicial Circuit asked the GBI Office of Special Investigations to look into Walton in January 2024.
This case was brought before the Northern Judicial Circuit Grand Jury on April 21, 2025. Walton has since been indicted on multiple charges.
He was arrested on May 8, 2025, and sent to the Madison County Jail.
According to Fox5 Atlanta, in 2022, he ran in the Democratic primary for the District 10 House of Representatives seat, where he lost to Tabitha Johnson-Green.
Meanwhile, the investigation is still in progress.
Walton is one of several city mayors and other officials accused of acts of corruption. South Fulton, Georgia’s Mayor Khalid Kamau was recently accused of misusing city equipment.
New York City’s Mayor Eric Adams was also charged in September with accepting bribes and foreign campaign contributions.
