Bridgewater State University, in a May 22 statement, said that two White students were going to face disciplinary action after a video showed them saying the N-word.

Per MassLive, the educational institution said that the two students in question “are already facing the wrath of a university which does not tolerate hate.”

The educational institution said that it was “actively addressing this outrageous conduct” through its multiple departments and policies as “this conduct clearly does not comply with our university’s stated values.”

Bridgewater State University, however, said that law prohibits the educational institution from disclosing details about the punishment handed out to the students in question.

The BSU’s Black student union shared the video on its Instagram page before later claiming that the social media platform had taken it down. In the edited video, a male student recording the footage is heard telling two male students to “say something for the vlog” before the pair utter the racial slur.

BSU’s Black student union in their Instagram post registered their displeasure with the students’ comments and demanded their dismissal. “We need to develop the Black unity and community here in order to increase our numbers and representation. PLEASE NEVER ALLOW ANY BS LIKE THIS TO BE SPOKEN AROUND YOU, IF YOU SEE SUMN, SAY SUMN,” the union wrote.

The unedited video was initially uploaded on TikTok before it was taken down. The reason behind the video recording could, however, not be established, MassLive reported.

“We are so proud of the huge impact and attention we’ve received with our previous posts. We hope this serves as a lesson for anyone who wants to disturb the peace and threaten the presence of Black & POC students at this school and in the world,” BSU’s Black student union said in their post to announce Instagram had taken down the video.

“In the words of the late Martin Luther King Jr., ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’ Thank you to everyone for spreading the video, spreading the message, and supporting our movement! And to those who believe that this whole thing was ‘too much’ or ‘could’ve been handled another way’, all we have to say is, in the words of the late and great Malcolm X, ‘We are non-violent with people who are non-violent with us.’”

They added: “We are strong believers in being able to express the negative emotions these scenarios make us feel, and being raw and real with the emotions that come with these things, instead of keeping them buried and worrying about how we will be perceived. We don’t care, and that feeling is beautiful and freeing. We recommend it. Be blessed.”

BSU in the statement also said that they were “truly grateful” to their students who brought the “hateful video comments to our attention.”
