Ghana’s Angela Kyerematen-Jimoh becomes IBM’s 1st female boss for Africa

Ghanaian Angela Kyerematen-Jimoh has been appointed by technology giant, IBM Corporation, as its Regional Head for North, East and West Africa. She was IBM’s first female country head and becomes the first woman and first African to be appointed Regional Head in Africa.

She will be responsible for IBM operations in over 40 countries in Africa including Morocco, Nigeria, Kenya, Senegal, Uganda, Ghana and Tunisia. Over the years, she has garnered experience working in the information technology, banking and services industry.

The strong business development professional is skilled in Business Planning, Banking, Business Development, Strategic Planning, and Marketing Strategy. She became the first female Country General Manager for IBM in Africa.

Prior to her new appointment, the ambitious Kyerematen-Jimoh was Chief of Staff to the Senior Vice President in charge of Global Markets and Sales in IBM’s corporate headquarters in New York.

Reacting to her new appointment, Chris Kirubi, East Africa Business Mogul and founder of Centum Investment said: “I am exceptionally proud of Angela. Her dedication and commitment to her work is unwavering.  She has all our support and I know she will make this a huge success story. We welcome her back to Africa.”

Kyerematen-Jimoh joined IBM in 2011 as Marketing Manager for the West Africa Market Segment and rose through the ranks to become the Strategy Leader for Central East and West Africa.

Before joining IBM, Kyerematen-Jimoh had worked for UBS Investment Bank & ABN AMRO in London as well as Guarantee Trust Bank Ghana. She holds a BA in Marketing and French and also a graduate of Harvard Business School.

She received the US African Women Forum’s Global Impact Leadership Award, African Achievers Awards for Excellence in Business and has been named one of Africa’s most influential women by Avance Media.

In 2017, Kyerematen-Jimoh was announced the CEO of the Year at the Information Technology Service awards and was also ranked as part of the top 50 women corporate leaders in Ghana for both 2016 and 2017 by the Africa Network of Entrepreneurs-TANOE.

Glitz Africa Magazine awarded her ‘Corporate Woman of the Year’ in 2018 and also featured her as one of the top 100 inspirational women the following year.
