Nigerian foodie and content creator Munachimso Brian Nwana now holds the world record for the most fast food restaurants visited in 24 hours, Guinness World Records said on Wednesday. The previous record of 100 was set last year by American YouTuber Airrack, and before Airrack, TikTok stars Nick DiGiovanni and the late Lynn “Lynja” Davis held the record.

They all set those records in New York City but Nwana’s record attempt occurred in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, making it quite challenging.

“New York has clusters of restaurants and adequate public transportation systems, so doing this in Abuja was much more daunting and challenging,” the 22-year-old said.

Guinness World Records does not allow any form of private transport while attempting this record. Nwana visited 15 restaurants and did so on foot due to Abuja’s limited public transportation infrastructure, he said.

He walked over 25 km and started the challenge at 5 p.m. to midnight when he took a nine-hour break to sleep before resuming at 9. a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. the following day. Nwana began the attempt at Chicken Republic in the residential district of Gwarinpa and completed it in the city center at fast food chain Kilimanjaro.

Anyone attempting this record must buy and consume at least one food or drink item at each restaurant visited. According to Guinness World Records, Nwana “made an effort to taste something – even if just a mouthful – from the majority of places he visited. The remaining food was all consumed by his team and members of the public.”

The Nigerian food consultant attempted this challenge because he wanted to promote Nigerian cuisine to the world.

“This record goes to show that the Nigerian food space is worth paying attention to,” he said. “I would like to encourage people from around the world to come and explore the Nigerian food space.”

Nwana’s feat comes a month after Oside Oluwole, a Nigerian biochemist and car dealer, shattered the Guinness World Record for the longest videogame marathon. Per the organization, Oluwole, who is also known as “Khoded”, played a soccer videogame continuously for over three days. The 24-year-old clocked in 75 hours in the process.

There are several other Nigerians including Hilda Baci who have in recent times made the list of Guinness World Record holders with incredible feats.
