Julia Fox has opened up about her brief relationship with Kanye West, also known as Ye.
Speaking with the U.K.’s Sunday Times about their month-long relationship in early 2022, Fox expressed regret.
“I regret that relationship so much,” she said. “I hate it! It was only a few weeks, but it felt like a lifetime. I was in probably the most uncomfortable position of my life, and that’s saying a lot. I don’t want to be known as anyone’s girlfriend.”
Fox explained that making their relationship public “wasn’t my idea,” and she had wanted to wait. However, she said, “boom, it was done behind my back.” She believed Ye used her to get back at his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian.
“I realized pretty quickly I was being used as a pawn,” she added.
The 34-year-old actress credited her 3-year-old son, Valentino, for helping her leave the relationship, calling him her “grounding force.” She said, “It was like, I can’t go down this spiral because no man, no matter how rich or famous, is worth one minute away from my child.”
Fox first confirmed her relationship with Ye in a January 2022 Interview Magazine article, in which she described meeting him in Miami on New Year’s Eve and forming an “instant connection.”
Later, in her memoir Down the Drain, she revealed that Ye had tried to get her to publish a “completely fabricated” version of how they met, which was “nothing like” her experience. The version that was ultimately published was “somewhere in the middle” of their two drafts.
Although she did not mention Ye by name in her 2023 memoir, it was clear he was the man she referred to as “the artist.” She described how he texted her, saying, “I can’t be friends with you if you don’t sign” a non-disclosure agreement, but she refused, replying, “I’ll live.”
In a 2023 interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, Julia Fox compared dating Ye to raising a second child.
“My son has to come first,” she said. “It just became too much, like I didn’t sign up to have two babies. Ultimately, I think he needed a full-time person, and I just couldn’t be that.”
