Once again, the federal murder-for-hire trial of Lil Durk has been delayed and is set to take place this spring, although the rapper pushed to move forward.

Court documents reviewed by Complex indicate that on Monday, January 5,  a California judge granted a continuance, postponing the trial that had been set to start on January 20.

The new trial date is scheduled for May 4, with a pretrial conference expected to take place on April 13.

Despite the fact that every other defendant called for the delay, Lil Durk, who is originally known as Durk Devontay Banks, objected and asked for the trial to proceed as planned.

The court still approved the continuance, with the reason being the extraordinary scope and complexity of the case.

Court filings describe a massive amount of evidence, including hundreds of gigabytes of digital material, such as audio and video recordings, surveillance footage, more than 30,000 pages of reports and records, photographs, witness statements, medical documents, and other materials, as the reason for the continuance.

“The case is so unusual and so complex, due to the nature of the prosecution and the number of defendants that it is unreasonable to expect preparation for pre-trial proceedings or for the trial itself within the time limits established by the Speedy Trial Act,” read the document.

Now, the trial for Durk and his five co-defendants is scheduled for May 4 with a pre-trial conference on April 13.

Since his October 2024 arrest in Florida, 33-year-old Durk has remained behind bars on accusations that he paid five OTF affiliates to kill Quando Rondo in August 2022.

Lil Durk faces charges including conspiracy, murder-for-hire, and firearm use in a violent crime, according to court documents.

Reports indicate that the alleged hit was supposedly in retaliation for the 2020 killing of King Von by Rondo affiliate Timothy “Lul Timm” Leeks.

The alleged plot led to the death of Rondo’s cousin Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson. Twice before, the Grammy winner’s trial had been postponed, including last January and once more in September.

Back in October, Durk filed to dismiss and disqualify the ongoing federal case, but the motion was denied last month.

Lil Durk is certainly not pleased with the court granting the continuance, but will still be hoping to come out of this case proven not guilty, knowing the rest of his music career and reputation depends on its outcome.
