Prior to meeting her boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards, legendary pop singer Cher, 79, revealed that she desired “a man and toddler.” She ultimately got the two.
Cher is 40 years older than Edwards, and the couple have been dating for over three years. The Believe singer spoke about desiring those two things during a Monday appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, PEOPLE reported.
“Before I met him, I walked around my house saying, ‘I want a man and a toddler,'” Cher recalled. “You declared it to the universe,” Shepard replied.

“I wasn’t expecting them maybe together but that’s what I wanted,” Cher said about Edwards and his young son. Edwards and his ex Amber Rose share a 6-year-old son named Slash.
During their conversation, Shepard, 51, also said that he was “not threatened” by his wife Kristen Bell’s “shining.” “I love it,” Shepard added. “The shinier she gets, the better.”
“Alexander is that way too,” Cher stated. She also described Edwards as a “wonderful” and “really funny” person.
The age gap between Edwards and Cher is quite glaring. But during a 2024 appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the 79-year-old explained why she prefers to date younger men, Face2Face Africa reported at the time.
The singer initially explained why she opted not to date Elvis Presley, per PEOPLE. “It was because I was nervous and I knew of the people around him and it wasn’t that they were bad people, it’s just that I was kind of nervous of his reputation and I mean…”
She also revealed she’s shy when not working and “kind of shy around men.” “And the reason I go out with young men is because men my age or older — well, now they’re all dead — but before they just never, they were always terrified to approach me and younger men were the only ones that…”
And when Hudson chipped in saying that “they’re bold,” Cher responded with the quote, “Yeah, raised by women like me!”
During a November interview with Gayle King for an episode of CBS Mornings, Cher also stated that she found nothing wrong with their age gap.
“They’re not living my life. Nobody knows what goes on between us, but we just have a blast,” she said.
Cher further stated that their age gap wasn’t an issue for Edwards. “He just says, ‘You know, you get older, but your spirit is younger,’” she said.
“I think he’s beautiful. He’s really talented,” Cher continued. “He’s one of the most talented persons I’ve ever met.”
