At least 200 couples recently gathered together to take their matrimonial vows in a mass wedding in Uganda.
The mass wedding, which was held at the Miracle Centre Cathedral in Rubaga, Uganda, last Thursday, joined in holy matrimony about 200 couples, reports the Daily Monitor. The mass wedding was part of a church program with the theme “77 Days of Glory (77 DoGs).”
Pastor Robert Kayanja, the clergy in charge of the church, said the mass wedding was organised for 200 lucky couples who wished to legitimize their union in a church but couldn’t afford the cost of a wedding ceremony.
The brides at the wedding were ferried in a sensational fashion — en masse — to the wedding venue on the backs of five flat-bed trailers. Wedding organizers arranged and decorated the trailers as they would a conventional saloon car prepped up for a wedding.
Witnesses say the brides were escorted on their way to the wedding venue — a distance of about a kilometer — with much fanfair by a team of counter terror security operatives driving in a police escort car.
Each one of the 200 couples were allowed to attend the ceremony with a best man, matron, and two relatives. In addition, each couple had a cake to celebrate the joyful day.
Pastor Kayanja described the event as the possibly the largest Christian mass wedding ever, maintaining that the Biblical wedding in Canaan had only 141 couples.
