Actress-singer Tamika Scott expressed her gratitude to a kind waitress in a huge way. The 50-year-old Xscape member wrote about a trip she and her daughter went to at The Juicy Crab in Buford, Ga. In an August 16 Instagram video, Scott and her daughter, Young Niyah, head to the seafood restaurant at the end of the night.

The singer claimed that many servers neglected them, leaving them standing at the door for five minutes. She added, “Four of them turned their backs. No one helped us.”

Scott then stated that one waiter eventually came over to assist them and led them to a table. Scott said she noticed some staff whispering as they took their seats.

“Never judge a book by its cover,” Scott said. “Be nice to everybody.” She continued in the video, explaining that because the server was kind, she was “going to bless her.”

Scott said, “And all the girls who turned their backs, all the girls who didn’t want to wait on me and were talking and whispering, do not get this tip. Be patient, because you never know when you’re going to be blessed.”

She gave the waiter a stack of money that she described as “a small token of love” after counting it.

The woman in the Instagram video asked, “Are you guys sure? Thank you guys so much! I genuinely appreciate that. Y’all just made my night.”

“Stay who you are,” Scott responded. “Don’t let nobody ever change you.”

The musician echoed the sentiments of her video in the post’s caption.

She wrote, “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover! I don’t look for special privileges. I believe EVERYONE should be treated fairly, no matter of their color, sex or financial status!! Thank you to the young lady that helped me and my daughter! You never know what a person is going through. Be kind and never turn your back on anyone! Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unaware,  Hebrews 13:2.”

Beyond going to eateries, Scott has often demonstrated her own cooking skills. She launched a cookbook named Table Set: Cooking with Tamika Scott in 2022, following years of encouragement from her husband and the pandemic that helped her perfect her talents.

The book provides a glimpse into Scott’s life and kitchen through a blend of family photos, recipes, and personal stories.

At the time, she told Essence, “I wanted to present something that was from the heart. I wanted to do it myself so I could show other people out there that it’s possible. I didn’t go to school for this. I didn’t go to culinary school. I cooked. I learned. I want people to see me and say, if she can do it, I can do it too. Whatever it is. It doesn’t have to necessarily be cooking. It can be something that they love, something they’re passionate about.”

Scott also created a line of spices called Tamika Scott’s Southern Fuse, which comes in eight distinct, delectable seasons and is free of preservatives.

“I created it in my own home. I took it and I sat down with a food scientist and we went over everything,” she told Essence.
