Standing at a height of 5’6,” 23-year-old model Nunana Awoonor (pictured) isn’t what your typical model looks like. She has, however, braved the odds to make it in a competitive and sometimes discriminatory industry in the United States for the last five years and counting.

When asked what keeps her going in spite of the odds, Awoonor said in an interview conducted earlier this year, “…Maybe I will be the path or the way for the shorter girls who look good but are not all that tall to become professional models.”

In her modeling career so far, Awoonor has worked as Event, Product & Brand Manager and as a brand ambassador with EventPro Strategies, Push Models, Method Models, and Fusion Event Staffing (Ascent Talents) in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.

Awoonor also does editorial, fashion, commercial, sports, glamour, fitness, lifestyle, beauty, and lingerie shoots and shows. Some of her clients include Coca Cola, Pepsi, Malibu, Nissan, Miller Fortune, Honda, Lipton Pure Leaf, Baileys, Ford, American Laser Skincare, Makeup Forever, DEX Cosmetics, Mary Kay, Nissan, Neon Aeon (LookBook Model for vintage brand 2013/14), UV Vodka, Jameson, and Absolut.

And while she was previously signed to modeling agency MMG, Awoonor freelances now.

Awoonor (called “Nunu Vaness” by her close friends and family), who also enjoys modeling for charity, is the founder of NVA Marketing and Promotions, an event staffing marketing and promotions company based in Ghana, and is currently pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts, Interior Design at the Academy of Art University in the United States.
