Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities announced the discovery of a 4,400-year-old well preserved private tomb at Saqqara.

According to the General Secretary of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Dr. Mostafa Waziri, the tomb belonged to a royal purification priest by name Wahtye who was the divine inspector of the Fifth Dynasty of the old kingdom.

Dr Waziri further stated that Wahtye served during the rulership of Neferirkare, the third king of the Fifth Dynasty.

Filled with statues of Wahtye and his family as well as colored drawings, the tomb, according to Dr. Waziri, has the priest’s mother’s and wife’s names inscribed on it.

According to Egypt Today, Dr. Warizi also revealed some of the drawings portray “the manufacturing of pottery and wine, making religious offering, musical performances, boats sailing, the manufacturing of the funerary furniture, and hunting.”

Out of the five shafts that were discovered in the tomb, Dr Waziri said one of them, which has not been dug out yet contains the coffin or sarcophagus of the owner of the tomb together with other objects.
