A Texas mother is facing charges after allegedly locking her 12-year-old daughter out of the house, forcing the girl to spend the night on a bench. After an argument with her daughter, Georgette Albert is now facing a charge of endangering a child.
According to Dayton Daily Magazine, the incident sparked interest because Albert works part-time for the Houston Independent School District (HISD).
Following an argument between the 45-year-old and her daughter last Saturday about whether the latter could have a friend over to their place, Albert is reported to have not only denied her daughter entry back into the home but also to have made her spend the night outside on a bench within their apartment complex.
Around 7:10 a.m. Sunday, the young girl sought assistance from a Houston Police Department substation, and after hearing her account, police went to the residence to check the situation.
Despite Albert’s original assertion that her daughter had fled, officials concluded that this was not the case and arrested her on Monday, charging her with endangering a child. The girl was placed into the custody of Child Protective Services after the arrest and then released to a family member.
As for Albert, she was let out of jail after posting a $5,000 bond. Her court appearance is set for October 15, when she will appear to answer to charges that have caused concern in the community, especially those on children’s safety and welfare.
The HISD told Law&Crime in an email that Albert is not a permanent teacher but a contract employee who works part-time for the district, and it was working on terminating that contract.
