It appears Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert’s divorce is getting messy as the singer is accusing the basketball star of being a bad parent to their two daughters. According to PEOPLE, Taylor, 33, made the allegations against her ex in response to the NBA championship winner’s reply to their initial divorce filing.
Shumpert, 33, and Taylor tied the knot in 2016, and they share two daughters – Rue, 3, and Junie, 8. Following their separation, Taylor initially claimed she and Shumpert remained best friends. It, however, appears her tone has changed as she alleges the former New York Knicks star “consistently fails to properly care for the minor children.”
The K.T.S.E. singer in the filing claims Shumpert had failed to feed their daughters “despite being in the [marital residence] with the minor children.” She also alleges Shumpert has been “smoking marijuana and being under the influence while caring for the minor children.”
Taylor also cited an incident where Shumpert allegedly put their daughters “in a rideshare in Chicago, which resulted in the minor children being dropped off at the United Center in general population while he utilized the services of a private driver.”
“Respondent consistently demonstrates a clear disregard for the safety of the minor children,” the filing states.
Taylor in a September 2023 Instagram post initially downplayed any tension between her and Shumpert after she filed for divorce in January of that year. “AHT AHT! Not too much on my bestie! In all fairness, Iman and I are separated and have been for a while,” the singer and actress stated in the Instagram post.
“To be 1000% clear, ‘infidelity’ ain’t one of the reasons for our departure. We are still the best of friends, great business partners and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our 2 beautiful children.”
She added: “Most importantly we are FAMILY & in the 10yrs together, 7yrs married we ain’t ever played with or about THAT. We just keep y’all asses out the group chat lol, which is the reason we’ve been able to successfully & peacefully separate without all of the outside noise.”
The Shoot It Up singer also stated that the reason she shared the news of their separation was that the “narratives are getting a little out of hand & it’s unfair to all parties involved.”
