What would it take to walk the life of legendary Michael Jordan? An opportunity has presented itself to own a piece of his life. Jordan’s 1991 BMW 850i is currently available for sale through a live auction on Bring a Trailer.
The NBA legend acquired the vintage vehicle in the same year as the iconic “Be Like Mike” Gatorade commercial was released. The BMW 8-series is being sold by a private dealer who obtained it in 1995.
As of Thursday, the highest bid for Jordan’s 1991 BMW 850i has reached $70,023, with a total of 15 bids placed. Jordan bought the luxury car new from Motor Werks of Barrington in Illinois. Currently located in Glencoe, the vehicle has 30,000 miles on it, with 22,000 miles added during its current ownership, as indicated on the auction page.
The car is adorned with an “M AIR J” license plate on both the front and rear, according to the New York Post. Jordan’s BMW 8-series, currently up for auction, boasts features like a power sunroof and a tail on the trunk.
Photos show Jordan driving the car outside Wrigley Field in Chicago on MLB Opening Day, April 4, 1993, which coincided with the conclusion of Jordan and the Bulls’ first NBA championship three-peat. This period marked Jordan’s departure from an attempt at an MLB career before his return in 1995 and winning another three NBA titles.
During this time, the vehicle appeared to be black with a dark-colored interior. The BMW now includes Light Parchment leather upholstery and a Mauritius Blue Metallic paint job. The BMW 8-series linked to Jordan also features rims resembling those seen in 1993 photos. Equipped with 17″ multi-piece AC Schnitzer wheels, the car has Continental ExtremeContact tires mounted in 2023.
Exhibiting 90s nostalgia, the vehicle includes an AM/FM/cassette stereo, a trunk-mounted CD changer, pop-up headlights, and fog lights. The auction listing notes that the front bumper cover, hood, and front fenders have undergone refinishing.
The auction ends January 8.
