Amadou and Miriam

Also known as “The blind couple from Mali”, Grammy-nominated duo Amadou & Mariam are one of the biggest music exports on the continent.

Guitarist and singer Amadou Bagayoko lost his sight at the age of 16 while singer, Mariam Doumbia lost hers when she was 5 due to untreated measles.

Famous for their unique traditional Malian blues music, the husband and wife duo met at Mali’s Institute for the Young Blind as teenagers where they both perfected their craft.

With several critically acclaimed albums and awards to their name as well as touring the world, Amadou and Miriam are a testament to the old adage “anything is possible”.
