Ansar al-sharia
One of the youngest militia groups on the continent, Ansar al-sharia is an Islamist group from Libya. It started its call for sharia law across Libya during the Libyan civil war.
Led by Amir, Muhammad al-Zahawi, it has involved itself in a host of high profile attacks including the 2012 Benghazi attack that killed some American citizens.
It got dissolved after a UN coordinated attack but its footprints remain clear in the country.
