Fifty-seven per cent of the experts said sexual assault and rape is a high or extremely high risk.  Forty-seven per cent said that it occurs very or fairly often within public spaces and 53 per cent said it is extremely unsafe for girls and women to go out at night on their own. A third of the experts stated that most of these sexual assault and rape cases are never or hardly ever reported.

Of the cities surveyed, Johannesburg ranked first. According to the report, a respondent from the city said, “Sexual harassment and violence happen so often that it is something we all feel as if we have to find ways to cope with it and go about our normal business as per usual.”
