Nigeria

According to Amnesty International, Nigeria imposed the highest number of death sentences and had the highest number of people under death sentence in Sub-Saharan Africa at the end of 2017.

The country had placed 621 people on death sentence and had 2,000 people on death row.  While the death sentences increased from 2015 to 2017, the country has not executed in the last year but it carried out three executions in 2016 but in secret.
